STEM education is essential to the United States’ ability to compete in the global marketplace as a leader in technological innovations. STEM-related jobs make up an enormous and essential component of today’s 21st century job market, and workers who are skilled in the STEM fields are in high demand.

STEM education can be an interdisciplinary or trans-disciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world problem-based and performance-based lessons. STEM education paves the way for exciting and rewarding career opportunities and provides a foundation for both individual and national innovation and success. It also provides the skills and knowledge necessary for students to succeed in any future career, whether or not they choose to go into a technical field. The critical thinking, problem solving, communication and teamwork skills that are built by STEM education are essential for success in any field, making STEM a cornerstone of education for preparedness in any career path.

There are many resources to help students find more information about STEM educational programs for high school and college students, and research internship and employment opportunities in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
